Things we gain in retirement - perspective
Transcript
One of the things that I've gained in retirement is perspective. Once I got out of the workforce and all the noise and the chaos of meeting the demands of work fell away, I was enabled the space to just think about things, to just not ruminate, which is what I did when I was working. I would just sit and just grind over all the things I was worried about. It's like rumination, but the good kind. I'm sure there's a word for it, but it's like I can just sit and just think about things. And I've changed a lot of opinions since I've retired. Not because I'm no longer doing it or in the workforce entirely. There's probably some element of that. But mostly because I have the mental space to really think deeply, or as deeply as I'm going to think, about things, about my life, about the world, my friends, my family. And it's allowed me to sort of broaden my understanding of what's going on around me. And frankly, dispel a lot of weird narratives that I had developed over my lifetime. So we can add to the list of things we gain in retirement, perspective.
