Paychecks did a study on the unretirement rate, or as I like to call it, the recidivism rate of retirees, and they found that one in six retirees left retirement, rejoined the workforce within four years. Of those who rejoined the workforce, about half said it was for financial reasons and about half said it was for personal reasons, most of them citing boredom or loneliness. This is why I think it's so important for us to think a lot about our retirement and how we're going to spend it, what's important to us, and for us to be honest with ourselves about what's going through our minds during our retirement. It's so easy to say, for me, it's so easy for me to say, well, I just get bored and I need the challenge. But why do I get bored? Why do I need the challenge? I want to make sure that I'm really thinking this through like a science project. I don't want to leave retirement alive.
